Play Overview
Donkey Kong (1981) is a series of running and jumping games where you play Mario, who navigates a single screen to rescue the princess. It was the start of the platform game genre and although is now dated, can still be played on a wide range of systems.
Play involves climbing a maze-like industrial construction site, avoiding barrels and other hazards to get to the top and save the girl. When you do you move on to the next level. It's a simple challenge but one you need to perfect to get a high score. Unlike more modern games there are no save points, when you are out of lives you start from the beginning.
Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Donkey Kong 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 15 months ago.
