Play OverviewPlay Overview

Donut Dodo (2022) is an old-fashioned running and jumping game. Like games from the 80s arcades, it's intentionally hard and requires practice (and dying a lot) to master. You play a Baker who has to run, jump, and climb to collect all donuts in each level as quickly as you can. There are just five tough levels, each with online high-score tables.

Play involves using the responsive moving and jumping controls to find a quick route around the level to collect the donuts. You need to think ahead while also keeping reactions sharp for all manner of enemies.

The result is a loving recreation of the sort of game found in the 80s or on the Amiga or Atari ST, right down to the screen shape and pixel-perfect 16-colour graphics.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Donut Dodo 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 7 months ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 3 for occasional very mild violence in a comical or abstract context. The player's character loses a heart whenever he is hit by fantastical enemies, such as green rats and a giant dodo, or by hazards, such as fireballs and spikes. These enemies and obstacles cannot be attacked by the player's character. Impacts do not result in obvious injuries and when the player's character runs out of hearts, the screen turns black and states 'Game Over'.

Skill Level

10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. You need persistence and willingness to try and fail. Younger players who have all this and a good helping of patience will get the most from this game.
