Play OverviewPlay Overview

Endling (2022) is an exploration platform game where you struggle to survive. It's a game about extinction with a strong ecological conscience. You are the last fox on earth, trying to survive a world ravaged by the human race.

You experience how life would be in a devastated world and discover the destructive effect of the human race, which corrupts the precious resources of the natural environments. In Endling you need to defend your three defenseless cubs, watching them grow and become adult foxes with unique personalities and fears.

You do this by exploring devastated environments, hunting other animals to feed your cubs. You must avoid becoming prey and put your survival instinct to the test to resolve emotionally taxing decisions, and bring your cubs to the last safe place where humans cannot harm them.

Our examiner, Chris Boers, first checked Endling 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 8 months ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 16 for strong violence. This game features frequent scenes in which humans attack foxes, using their hands, firearms and other weapons, including an axe. The animals respond realistically to this violence, with audible pain responses. Blood is sometimes shown and visible wounds can be inflicted. When the fox is injured, it is seen limping. The fox can also be caught in animal traps. The game also contains animal-on-animal predation and sight of dead bodies lying on the ground, some displaying wounds and in varying stages of decomposition.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB TEEN for Blood and Fantasy Violence. Players traverse side-scrolling environments (e.g., forests, human settlements, factories) to hunt for prey while avoiding traps, human hunters, and guard dogs. Hunters can shoot the fox, while guard dogs can bite/kill it. Background environments depict additional acts of violence and blood: a corpse with a bloody ax impaled in its chest; a man holding a dead child in his arms; a processing factory depicting chics/chickens killed in an assembly-line process (e.g., a pile of bloody animal parts can be seen, as well as blood on the ground).
Likely to be rated for mild peril content. There are emotive situations but any violence is not directed towards human characters.
