Play Overview
Freedom Finger (2019) is a tongue-in-cheek game where you pilot a hand that can shoot from its middle finger. Along with the shooting, the game is music driven as you punch, grab, and pound enemies to smithereens. It takes the classic, Gradius and Nemisis shooting games in a comedic direction.
Attacks and enemies are affected by the music beat. Obstacles move in time with the beat and pauses in the current song will also freeze or stutter enemies. You can combat these enemies by standard shooting, but also by punching projectiles back at them, or grabbing them and gaining their powers.
It's all a lot of silly fun, but really well produced, with a fully voiced, fully animated branching Story Mode starring Nolan North, John DiMaggio, Sam Riegel, and Eric Bauza. The original music comes from Aesop Rock. With 40 handcrafted levels over 13 worlds, this will keep you entertained for some time.
Although the central premise of the game is a rude finger gesture, there are optional "family-friendly" modes that censor the middle finger or bleep swear words.
