Play OverviewPlay Overview

Lab Rat (2025) is a tile-based puzzle game with an emphasis on satire. You work in a machine-learning facility where you take on scenarios chosen for you by the metrics-obsessed AI that monitors, profiles, and taunts you as you progress.

Play involves manoeuvring objects on a grid to divert lasers, and manipulate electricity to make required connections. You can place portals that let you jump from one location to another. There are over 80 puzzles to work through as you attempt to outwit the incessant AI intent on heckling you for your humanity.

The game leans into the Portal-like puzzles and computer persona. In fact, more than that game, Lab Rat narrates your progress to assure you that your puzzle performance and survey response data will be fed to this (theoretically) unbiased machine, and shape its view of humanity. You answer questions about your state of mind and are reassured that others are also doing the test.

The result is a game that is both puzzling and unsettling.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Lab Rat 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 7 days ago.
