Metal: Hellsinger is a shooting game, set in hell, where you need to shoot in time with the music to do the most damage. The more in sync you are with the rhythm, the more intense the music will become and the more destruction you will cause.

You play The Unknown and shoot your way through fierce hordes of enemies to set yourself up for an epic showdown with The Red Judge boss. There is a rhythm indicator in the centre of the screen that you use (along with the music) to attack in time with the beat. Although the focus is very much on the rhythm, you can use a wide range of guns with unique abilities such as Murder of Crows or The Big Goodbye.

You progress through a main story, narrated by Troy Baker The Last of Us, or can go after a high score on the online leaderboards. There is also a challenge mode where you try to beat friends' scores. Most importantly, every track is created specifically for the game with vocals by metal music icons like Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Matt Heafy (Trivium), Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God), Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy) and Tatiana Shmailyuk (Jinjer).

The result is a violent shooting game like Quake or Doom, but with rhythmic skill rather than super-accurate shooting being the way you get good.
