Play Overview
Monterona is a creative game where you build Italian-style towns, inspired by your grandma’s stories. Play focuses on imaginatively placing and detailing houses, walkways, green spaces and canals to create your own unique town. It stands out from similar town-building games for its storytelling aspect and the ability to walk the streets of your creation in a first-person perspective.
You play by creating your interpretation of the places your grandma talks about in the stories of her hometown. To do this you simply select where you want each building or natural element to go. You can fill your town with a variety of smaller details ranging from trees, bushes and flowers to motorbikes, tables and chairs, or even people. At any point while building you can also enter first-person view, allowing you to walk around and immerse yourself in your town as if you were a civilian.
As you listen to the different stories, you unlock more space and new buildings to use in your town, such as pizzerias and movie theatres. Through trial and error, you can learn to use the interactions between placeable elements to fine-tune the details of your creation. For example, a street lamp placed on a table automatically becomes a candle.
The result is a visually beautiful game that blends storytelling and imagination. Wandering through your town is relaxing and enhances the effect of small details, bringing to life the stories told by Grandma.
