Play OverviewPlay Overview

Oni: Road To Be The Mightiest Oni (2023) is an action-adventure about a demon warrior who, after being defeated by a Japanese folktale hero, joins forces with a spirit to get revenge. You play by exploring the hand-drawn world as dynamic duo: Kuuta clubs enemies so that Kazemaru can suck up their souls for power. It stands out not only for its cartoon visuals but for the variety of ways you can progress - not just killing everything in sight.

You are the only survivor of the Demon King's attack and together with spirit helper Kazemaru go on a journey to reclaim your land. Like Yooka-Laylee but set in feudal Japan, you control both these characters together to solve puzzles, complete missions and traverse, but also to take on enemies.

As you progress you discover a more playful experience than other adventures. For instance, you can level up by running away from monsters, like a game of tag. Or perhaps spend time collecting mushrooms that grow in clusters to purchase upgraded clubs.

The result is a game that's beautiful and evocative. But beyond the dazzling green meadows, looming forests, and plains of floating megaliths is a story about a partnership quest in a small corner of the world.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for mild violence that lacks any apparent harm or injury to human-like and fantasy characters. This game features mild violence. Enemies have to be hit multiple times, which knocks them to the ground. They can then have their spirit drawn out, which causes them to disappear in a puff of smoke. If the player's character is defeated, he faints and the screen fades to black. Most characters are fantastical, although one boss is human. The player's character can be chased by a monster, although the scenes are not especially scary. Boss characters include a large demon dog and a five-headed serpent, which may be scary for very young children.
