Play Overview
PokeyPoke is a retro running and jumping game where you use a bendy spear to acrobat your way around the world. It sounds complex and awkward but once the simple controls are mastered you can move fluidly through the levels.
Play involves using your abilities to cling, bounce and plant your spear in walls to traverse dangerous levels. Part climbing, part acrobatics, it's a tough challenge where you fail and die and try again repeatedly. The star of the game is the cleverly modelled uses of the spear. Whether embedding in a wall to gain purchase or pulling it back to then propel yourself into the air, it offers a uniquely expressive and satisfying way to get around.
Unlike other games, that steadily give you more abilities and powers, PokeyPoke keeps things focused on what you start with. There are no power-ups, warp gates, monsters or skill trees. Just you, your spear and each testing level. The first challenge is getting through a level safely, but then you can try again to collect all the tantalisingly out of reach gems along the way.
