Play Overview
Sheepy: A Short Adventure (2024) is a running and jumping game about a curious sheep exploring the ruins of a huge city. As you traverse crumbling buildings to explore a world reclaimed by nature, you gradually piece together what happened to the former inhabitants. As a free game, it stands out for the depth of mystery and atmosphere it creates over its short runtime.
You play a small stuffed toy sheep brought to life by music, who embarks on a journey of discovery through the remnants of an ancient civilisation. You travel through claustrophobic tunnels and crumbling buildings reclaimed by nature. Along the way, you discover audio recordings that piece together how the city fell apart.
Play involves the usual platforming (running, jumping and double jumping). You traverse pitfalls and obstacles, flip levers and push buttons to unlock the way forward. You complete challenging gauntlets that require you to chain together different moves as you dash through the air, utilising floating orbs that replenish your double jump. You also face off against other possessed toys.
Here though, it's memorable as much for its ambience as for the precision jumps and puzzles. Slowly piecing together the history of the world through the environments and recordings you find, in combination with the melancholic soundscape and platforming challenges makes for a game that leaves a lasting impression.
