South of Midnight is a folklore action-adventure set in an alternative version of the Deep South. You explore the world as Hazel, using magical powers to subdue the creatures that threaten her family. It stands out for how you not only battle literal monsters but also the memory of your family's part in the world's demise.

When disaster strikes Hazel's hometown, she is called to become a magical healer. Granted new powers, she must now deal with the dangerous creatures who threaten her way of life. As she does, however, she ends up embroiled in her family's dark past and how the world became beholden to these powers.

Play involves exploring this world, confronting these creatures, and learning to weave an ancient power to overcome the obstacles in her way. As you do this you grow into the role of a Weaver. This steadily opens up which creatures you can take on and how you can traverse around the world.

The result is a gothic experience where magical realism pulses through everyday places and people - from forgotten farms to abandoned places in Mississippi or even artefacts from the Civil War and Depression. Running through all this is a story of a young woman dealing with a complex relationship with her mother, multiple family failures, and a string of social injustices.
