Play OverviewPlay Overview

Stormgate is a real-time strategy game where you command a faction of science-fantasy soldiers to fight for domination across single and online multiplayer battles. Play focuses on tactically gathering resources, building your base, and training troops to gain the upper hand in the fight for survival and conquest. It stands out for not only offering extremely competitive game modes but also accommodating casual and beginner-friendly ways to play.

You play each round as either the futuristic, tech-based Human Vanguard; demonic Infernal Host; or the third, currently unannounced faction. Starting from nothing but a few workers you must develop your base and amass an army to take down your enemies. You do this by strategically choosing which units to train, when and where to deploy them and how you want them to attack. Simultaneously, your opponents attempt to do the same - whether controlled by a computer or other players. Each faction has vastly different troops and mechanics for base building and combat. For example, the Infernal Host surrounds their base with a shroud that gives their workers and soldiers additional health.

As you progress, you can try out different single-player or cooperative game modes, including a story-lead campaign and highly competitive player-versus-player matches. There is also the ability to make maps to play, with highly customisable landscaping and unit modification options, such as neutral troops that heal you when killed. Through trial and error, you can perfect your strategy to become efficient at gaining power and deciding how and when to attack. Despite this, you will need to constantly adapt your approach depending on your enemy’s actions, switching between attack and defence when necessary.

The result is a game where every tactical decision has a huge effect on your odds of victory, akin to Risk. The total control you have over your army creates a very high skill ceiling which complements the competitive nature of the online warfare gameplay.
