Play OverviewPlay Overview

Sulfur (2024) is an adventure game where you take on cartoon enemies to progress through dungeons and forests. You take on the challenge in short runs where you inevitably die and then try again. Action is thick and fast, and the fun here is in the mechanics of the guns and melee. It stands out for its combination of quick action, realistic weapons and just one-more-run game-play.

It combines the offensive-focused battling of "boomer shooter" games like Doom and Quake, with the multiple runs of "rogue-likes" like Returnal or Hades. You need to manage your inventory before you start each run, but must choose carefully as when you die you lose what took with you.

The result is a bombastic shooting game of short intense runs. It's a combination of fast-reaction shooting and the strategy of what guns to use and inventory management.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Sulfur 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Ellen Robertson and updated 7 weeks ago.
