Swordy Quest (2020) is a role-play game where you craft, gather and hunt your way through a fantasy world that gradually unlocks over time. What's unusual is the simple interface that creates an accessible way for anyone to experience the surprisingly deep role-playing mechanics.

Play involves making choices about gathering resources, waiting for them to be collected and then spending them on different items. This expands incrementally so you are able to access new resources, equipment and interactions. It starts off very simple, but steadily expands to offer wide-ranging role-play choices. You are soon fighting enemies, hunting monsters, fishing, trading, assaulting castles and travelling all over the world.

As you progress you learn to manage your character's health and energy. You need to keep food and water levels topped up and take a rest to regain stamina. As you set out wider afield you can travel by foot, horse, boat or even dragon. This enables you to visit towns and cities where you can search for clues and missions. From here you can craft better armour, learn and perform magic and even join clans.

Like in Zelda Breath of the Wild, you need the right clothes for each different environment. To travel to the desert wear something cooling to protect you from the heat. Or if you need to travel to the frozen tundra, wear something to keep you warm.
