Play Overview
Tiny Thor (2023) is a retro running and jumping game where you play a young Thor on an adventure. The stages and platforms are designed around your versatile hammer, which you can throw, bounce off walls, and even use as a mobile jump pad. It's this expansion of the platforming formula, combined with non-linear, secret-filled stages, that makes it stand out.
You play Thor, who's given Mjölnir, the magic hammer, by his father as a birthday present. You decide to head into the wilds to try it out before your party and end up traversing ruins, forests, and mountains while fighting off hordes of enemies and hostile creatures.
Play involves running, jumping and swinging your way through the stages, avoiding obstacles defeating enemies, and collecting gems. You use your hammer, which you can throw at different angles, to hit enemies, and can bounce it off walls and deflect it around corners to flip switches and find secrets. You can also jump on it in mid-air to get an extra height boost. As you progress, you unlock new skills and abilities which let you backtrack to reach previously inaccessible areas and unlock bonus stages, as well as enabling you to fight ever more challenging enemies and progress through the story.
The result is a game that expands classic platforming mechanics, using your hammer to add more action and puzzles. Experimenting with ambitious techniques and tactics to unlock a way forward, before finally succeeding makes for a rewarding and original experience.

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Most of the main stages are fairly straightforward, although they do get more difficult towards the end. However, you can turn on invincibility mode if you find something too difficult. That said, some of the optional secrets are very difficult to get to and require much more skill and dexterity.
