Wolfenstein (1981) is a series of World War II shooting video games. They are mostly set in an alternate history of 1960s Europe where the Nazis won the Second World War. You explore on foot with various weapons at the ready. It's a combination of fear and adrenaline as you need your reflexes to survive for long.
In most Wolfenstein games, you play William "B.J." Blazkowicz, a Jewish Polish-American Army Captain who is fighting against the Axis powers. This is often centered around Nazis attempting to harness supernatural and occult forces and set in an alternate history where Axis powers won World War II.
The first two games in the series, Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein focused on stealth from a top-down perspective. Wolfenstein 3D took things in a fast-paced first-person shooting direction. Along with Doom, this popularized the format:
Wolfenstein 3D (1992) - PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (2001) - PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox, Mac.
Wolfenstein (2009) - PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
The series later rebooted with Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot:
Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014) PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One
Wolfenstein: The Old Blood (2015) - PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (2017) - PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch
