Fortnite started as a popular shooting game where you battled to be the last man standing. This has evolved to allow players to not only create their own modes, but their own games in the Fortnite engine.
Fortnite’s Creative mode is a way to discover and play other experiences, called Islands. These are a combination of experiences where players have designed their own game modes and maps as well as bespoke challenges. Like Roblox, this is creating a vast and diverse set of games to play. Prop hunts, deathruns, quests, role-playing and racing games have all been made.
Each of these Islands has an age rating, and you can determine which islands your child can visit based on those ratings. Fortnite has extensive in-game parental controls that allow adults to manage their child’s experience in the game. Each platform on which the game is available – for example, PlayStation®, Xbox, Nintendo Switch™ and Windows – also offers its own parental controls.
In addition to these user-created experiences, Fortnite has team up with specific brands like Lego and Rocket League to offer top-tier games in this ecosystem.
