Auto Chess is a strategy game where you set up automated actions to gain a competitive advantage. As you play you purchase units that will battle for you, each unit has different attributes that can collaborate with other units. The goal ultimately is to create a team that not only works well together but can counter your opponent's team.

Despite many interactions being based on luck or automation, as a player, it is your job to weigh choices based on the odds you're presented. Will you accept defeat to save your money? Or will you invest in order hopes of stopping your opponent?

In a single-player game, you will face opponents many times with each encounter only lasting a few seconds. It is your job in these interactions to see who your threats are and prioritise how you can adapt to defeat them while not creating new weaknesses for the other players to exploit.

While the game has a steep learning curve for ranked play, the basic interactions are simple and the game is able to walk you through basic formations and strategies, reducing the barrier of entry.

Auto Chess goes by two different names:
  • Auto Chess: Origins (Mobile)
  • Auto Chess (PC)

Despite the different names, Auto Chess provides cross-play between the PC and mobile versions. A PS4 version was scheduled for an October 30th release but has been delayed with no new date.

The violence found in this combat is unrealistic, as are reactions to it. Damage is indicated by health bars, characters flash when hit and disappear when defeated. Violence is mostly seen from a distance, although the player does have the option to zoom in.
