Beat Cop (2018) is a police crime drama where you have been framed for murder. Back on the street, you navigate the pixilated 80’s Miami Vice world to find out who did it. Your approach and decisions matter. Will you go in with the mafia or stay straight? Your choices determine the narrative and ultimate ending. It's set in New York and inspired by police shows from the 80s. Expect a lot of dark humour and complex crime drama.

It's the same developer as This War of Mine. But this is more tongue-in-cheek than that game. It revels in the era, which means it includes the language, culture and ethics of the time. While This War of Mine was heartbreaking to play, Beat Cop challenges morality with over the top (and at times inappropriate) humour. This ensures it never becomes too worthy or woke and is an unusual way to approach the issues of the era by stepping into that world.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Beat Cop 4 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 2 years ago.
