Play OverviewPlay Overview

Dysmantle (2020) is a survival strategy game where you play a character emerging after the apocalypse. The world is now inhabited by dangerous creatures and you only have your bare hands to survive. It's novel because most items in the world can be destroyed for materials. You then craft and learn skills as you explore and solve environmental puzzles to advance.

As you progress you encounter and kill zombies and other creatures. You can collect items for crafting and cooking as well as learn new skills. Pushing further you can discover technology and ancient lost knowledge from hidden tombs with magic-like properties. Eventually, you have enough resources to build your own outpost and establish a life for yourself. Here you can start farming for a more sustainable food source.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Dysmantle 4 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 5 weeks ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for Moderate Violence, Horror. Players encounter zombies that growl and bleed when hit, with their health bars depleting. Defeated enemies stay on the ground. Some zombies/monsters spit or vomit acid, causing health damage. Upon the player's death, they grunt in pain, collapse, and respawn at their last save point. In boss battles, players can loot the skeleton of their previous character before it disappears. The entire game is set in a zombie apocalypse, and designs of these characters may be scary to younger players.

Skill Level

10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. It's also important to ensure children understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. You need to be able to deal with multiple systems at the same time to manage your resources. You also need to deal with the combat with enemies and the possibility you may lose progress. It's a large space to explore and needs good resilience to keep going when things get tougher.
