Ghost of a Tale (2018) is a swashbuckling adventure where you, as plucky rat Tilo, take on a rich world of evil creatures. It’s another game full of lore and backstory, although here it is medieval darkness rather than technological apocalypse. The work of a stand-alone developer, it offers a unique vision of this kind of fantasy and one that is well executed.
It's set in a medieval world inhabited by several species of anthropomorphic animals: mice, rats, frogs, crabs, badgers, hawks, spiders, leeches, magpies and various undead creatures. There has been a cataclysmic event and the mouse kingdom sent an envoy to save their home by revealing the weaknesses of others. But it was the rat army who rose up to finally defeat the entity becoming the heroes of the war.
As a mouse stuck in a dungeon at the start of the game, you must escape and then play your part in putting things right in the world.
