Play OverviewPlay Overview

Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory (2020) is an action-rhythm game. You play through songs from the Kingdom Hearts series of video games by hitting enemies in time with the music with your staff. This makes for a nice blend of rhythm and combat.

There are 140 tracks in the story mode that revisit a brief synopsis of the main game series' storylines. These offer a novel introduction to the main stories, while also fleshing out the complicated narratives. In co-op mode, you take turns to play different sections of a song. In battle mode, you compete with players online to see who performs better. You can earn tricks to hamper the other players.

The game offers an unusual combination of rhythm and storytelling while evolving the play with new mechanisms, modes, and difficulties.

Our examiner, Jonah Monaghan, first checked Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory 3 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 2 weeks ago.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for violence. Violence towards human characters is unrealistic, with bright lights and magical effects appearing on impact. Characters stagger backwards but do not show injuries or cry out in pain. During the various levels, fantastical enemy characters advance on the player's character and must be attacked in time to the music. In most cases, characters are defeated with a single hit but others may require multiple hits. As with the human characters, reactions to violence are undetailed and unrealistic. All the weapons used are unrealistic and the reaction to the violence is the same regardless of the type of weapon or magic used.
Users Interact: The game enables players to interact and communicate with each other, so may expose players to language usually associated with older rated games.

Rated for younger players in the US. Rated ESRB EVERYONE 10+ for fantasy violence, mild language. Animated sequences sometimes depict characters using keyblades to attack enemies in one-on-one combat; a handful of sequences involve characters being impaled—depicted off-screen or obscured by bright flashes of light. One song title contains the word “damned.”

Skill Level

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content.
