Mika and the Witch's Mountain (2024) is an action-adventure about a young witch who works as a courier on a small island. You learn to fly around the island, take on quests and slowly gain the skills (and broom) you need to get to your destination. It's a game that stands out for its cartoon visuals, flying mechanics and cosy island locale.
As you work to take packages to where they need to go you discover a coming-of-age journey about the importance of effort, friendship, and community. You fly around the world on your magic broom to explore every nook and cranny, meet the locals and discover the secrets hidden in the mountain.
As you progress and gain more powerful brooms you can reach more of the world and ultimately get to the top of the mountain. There's always something new to discover or new people to meet and help. The flight and sense of soaring around this Studio Ghibli-style island are what keep you going. You must use the air currents to propel your flight and reach every corner of the island.
It's a game about a journey to the top of the un-summitable mountain. Taking on this task seems impossible at first, but with perseverance, new powers and the help of the friends you make it turns from impossible to possible.
