Play OverviewPlay Overview

Perfect Vermin (2020) is a grotesque narrative game where you destroy office furniture to see whether it is actually alive. Play involves traversing the small office area hitting doors, desks, chairs and so on, with a hammer. Hit the right ones and they are revealed to be what the game calls vermin, and explode into a bloody mess. It's a game not for the squeamish but soon subverts the violent play in surreal and intriguing directions that eventually challenge our desire to leave a legacy and the pain of terminal illness.

Through a series of ever more disorienting challenges, you return to the same office space to destroy everything with a sledgehammer. To finish the level you need only find the particular office furniture that explodes into blood when hit. These items are the same on each subsequent run, while the way you interact or see the world changes greatly.

The result is an interesting and rich interactive challenge. It creates an increasing level of disorientation between you and the world and then cashes this in with a philosophical twist at the end. Whether or not you find this satisfying, the experience stands up as a coherent whole that stays with you long after you have finished playing.
