Play OverviewPlay Overview

Skyward Journey (2018) is a gentle adventure where you guide flocks of birds to wake up island inhabitants and grow your flock. You play by drawing lines with your finger that the flock follows. It's simple and meditative both in its interactions and soundtrack.

Gather lost birds, draw wind currents to guide them, and lead them on their long journey home. It's an elegant idea expressed with minimal distraction. But as you slowly progress and finish each level you are met with messages from other players who share their regrets. As you progress further these are juxtaposed with hopeful thoughts and ideas from proverbs and philosophy.

The result is a touching game that does feel heavy-handed or overly worthy. It communicates the essence of Bronnie Ware's book, Top Five Regrets of the Dying, in a form accessible to people who might not read the book themselves.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Skyward Journey 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Ollie Robertson and updated 2 weeks ago.
