Play OverviewPlay Overview

After Us (2023) is an adventure game where you explore a surreal world as Gaia, who must salvage the souls of extinct animals. You play by traversing the world, dealing with hazards and reviving creatures to reveal their fate: the last whale harpooned, the final eagle caged, the last deer hunted down. It stands out for the emotive narrative and unusual way to consider the extinction not only of wildlife but of humanity.

The last animals have died and it's down to you to rescue each of their souls to bring them back to Mother’s Ark. You glide, jump, and dash through the world to evade deadly traps and chasms. As you go you use your power to clear the oil that consumes the world, face hungry Devourers, and break souls free.

As you progress you discover a huge world filled with surreal imagery of a long-lost human past. The forests have died and the cities have crumbled. You must find a way through these spaces, the dry seas and polluted skies to find the animals you can save. Along the way, you spread life and beauty on her path.

The result is a story of contrasts. It's a sombre look at a world decimated by human impact. The low view of humanity may not be to everyone's taste, but before the game is done we discover that our part in the story is not only as agents of extinction, but also of progress, love, and hope.

Age RatingsAge Ratings

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for moderate violence and scenes of moderate horror that younger players may find disturbing. This game contains frequent depictions of non-realistic-looking violence towards human-like characters. The player's character can be harmed and defeated in a variety of ways, including being hit with projectiles, drowning, and burning. Regardless of the type of violence, the reaction is unrealistic in nature and there are no visible injuries. The screen fades to black when the player is defeated. This game also features a number of horror sequences. Throughout the game, the player is chased by human-like creatures with glowing red eyes. They relentlessly chase after the player, trying to catch them and suck out their life force. These sequences are intense in nature and feature some jump scares, as well as eerie imagery. There are also statues showing distressed animals - such as a dead dog, a slaughtered pig and a harpooned whale - which may upset young children.

Skill Level

8+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it's important for parents and guardians to consider the maturity required to process the game content. Younger players need to be able to navigate the environment under pressure. They also need to be able to connect with the narrative and the idea of humanity's impact on the world and other ecology.
