Play Overview
Clive ‘N’ Wrench (2023) is a 3D running and jumping game where you play duo, Clive the rabbit and Wrench the monkey on his back. Like Banjo Kazooie and more recent Yooka Laylee, you explore the world to collect tokens and unlock new areas. It's novel as a recreation of these games both in play style and scope. Your adventure takes you through time and space in a magical 1950s fridge.
Play involves getting the rabbit and monkey duo to jump, roll, hover and spin their way through a whole host of wacky (and highly detailed) cartoon worlds. From Egypt in Tempus Tombs to the prehistoric ice age in Iceratopsm you take on quests from varied inhabitants and unlock new areas and moves. The fun is in exploring each area and finding all the items you can, including those that have been hidden in ingenious places.
It's a game made all the more impressive because it's made by one person. He's managed to capture the spirit of Spyro the Dragon and Jak & Daxter. The result is a nostalgic retro romp in a style of game not often seen on modern consoles.
Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Clive ‘N’ Wrench 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 14 months ago.
