Block Buster Billy (2023) is a puzzle game about positioning blocks that join together when they make valid maths formulas. Play involves pushing the blocks to not only satisfy the rules of maths but also form shapes that are useful to progress the level's puzzles. Although the connections don't change the rules of the world like Baba Is You, it has the same feel of making phrases that enable you to progress - here they are mathematical rather than linguistic.
It's a block-pushing game where only certain blocks can connect to each other. Which blocks connect is determined not by their colour or specific attributes but by whether they complete valid equations with their neighbouring blocks. In this way, you must connect the blocks to move them around and out of your way to get to the treasure chest on each level.
As you progress you learn to criss-cross and interconnect the connections. You work your way through different levels to complete each island. If you get stuck on one puzzle, you can go back to the island and select another level. However, solving one level can give you a useful blockpiece for another connected level.
The result is a game that involves math but is as much about spatial awareness, lateral thinking and persistence.
