Play Overview
Chants of Sennaar (2023) is a traversal and translation puzzle where you play a traveller called to reunite the People of the Tower who are unable to communicate with each other. Play involves exploring the cell-shaded world to decipher the glyph-based puzzles and build your knowledge of its language. In this way, it gets you to slowly translate these unfamiliar letters and put them together to understand how to help the people you meet.
Divided since the dawn of time, the People of the Tower no longer speak to each other. But it is said that one day, a traveller will find the wisdom to break down the walls and restore balance. Inspired by the story of the Tower of Babel, it's a game about observation, listening, and deciphering ancient languages.
You move around the world and work with the glyphs you find to solve puzzles that let you progress. As you do, you make notes about what you think each letter means. In turn, this opens the door to communicating with the locals who need help - once you can understand what they are asking.
The result is a streamlined challenge where observation and translation are as important as quick thinking or fast reactions. By the end, you have not only travelled the endless steps of the prodigious labyrinth but uncovered an ominous truth about a fascinating universe where ancient languages are both the lock and the key.
