Play Overview
Cult Of The Lamb (2022) is a god-sim strategy game, where you are a cult leader rather than an actual god. You play a lamb and start your own cult as you venture out into the world of woodland worshippers. It combines explorative combat like Binding of Isaac and the homemaking of Animal Crossing. It stands out for mixing its fun loops of brawling and god-sim to create a game where there's always another important decision to make.
Play involves exploring the world to start your own cult. You attack enemies and destroy things to find coins and other collectables. As you go you collect resources and followers to use when have in your home area. There you can indoctrinate new followers, build new structures, perform dark rituals and give sermons to reinforce the faith of your flock.
In this way, you attract and train your flock of followers. There's quite a bit of civic work to do, even in a cult, and you find yourself fetching and carrying and cleaning a lot at the start. Once you have enough power you set out to adventure into four mysterious regions. Each of the areas is different on each run, so you find and fight different hordes of enemies and rival cult leaders.
As you progress you can absorb other cult leader's power to slowly assert your own cult's dominance. Cleanse the non-believers, spread enlightenment, and perform mystical rituals on the journey to become the mighty lamb god.
The result is a stylish game with a steady stream of things to do. The two aspects, heading out to gather resources and followers and then building and training when back home, are well-balanced and offer variety.
