Play OverviewPlay Overview

Device 6 (2013) is a narrative puzzle where you piece together a mystery through unusual interactions with your device. As the story unfolds, you rotate your screen, hold it up to a mirror to read backwards text, and generally search for clues in unusual ways. It stands out for these unique interactions and its unusual world, created through text that reflects each new environment.

You play Anna, who wakes up with no memories in a strange castle and must find out what's happened. As you play, you discover new locations and meet bizarre characters who appear to be unaware of their surroundings, and must figure out what's real and what you can believe.

Play is text-based, and you swipe on the screen to move and read the text (similar to a zoomed-in document). Unlike other text adventures, here the text reflects your current environment. If you're walking down a long corridor, the words will be in one long line. If you turn a corner, the text will rotate 90 degrees and you have to reposition your screen to keep reading.

As you progress you learn to look for unusual and unexpected ways of finding clues. There are images, secret paths, and other clues you need to find to solve the puzzles, some of which require backtracking, note-taking, and special items to discover. Puzzles themselves can be anything from adjusting a dial to completing a quiz, appearing at the end of each of the six chapters.

The result is a game that stretches text beyond the meaning it carries. It challenges you to engage in a more interactive, tactile way, as you physically move your device in step with the events of the game. Slowly piecing together each new mystery and puzzle as you progress makes for a deeply engaging experience where curiosity is your greatest ally.
