Holstin is a survival horror adventure set in an isolated 90’s Polish town infected with an ominous presence. Play involves exploring the town, talking to locals and fighting the zombies. It stands out for the detail of its world and the ability to switch from zoomed-out view to first person for moments of action.
It's November 1992 and the inhabitants of an isolated town in eastern Poland have become infected by a foul disease. You venture into the town in search of your friend Bartek, following his footsteps to uncover what brought him to this town and whether he is still alive.
You work your way through areas of the eerie town, unlocking doors, collecting resources and (when necessary) dispatching the infected locals. In this way, you scavenge for scarce supplies and weapons to fight off the twisted enemies.
The result is a game that takes classic pixilated zombie games and injects modern mechanics. Not only visually more advanced with the switching view, but how you target the zombies (head, hands, legs) determines how quickly they are neutralised. This, along with the fully voice-acted narrative, elevates the experience from a simple survival game to something like a retro Last of Us experience.
