Play Overview
The games are simple to pick up and play, although the button-mashing, fights do require some problem-solving to advance. You need to use the right character to perform the right task to unlock new areas. Played together in two-player mode makes this an ideal challenge for families.
There are many Lego games to choose from as you can see in the list. The console versions offer better visuals and more fleshed-out open worlds to explore, but the handheld DS, 3DS and PlayStation Vita versions are still impressive in the scope of gameplay and the hundreds of characters they include from the franchise. The smartphone and tablet versions of the games are the lesser cousins here and offer less involved gameplay in most instances while still being fun.

Along with this lineup of Lego games to choose from are some other styles of Lego-video-game combinations. Lego Rock Band on PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360 and Nintendo DS offered a rhythm action challenge where you use a plastic instrument to play along with classic rock songs.
Lego City: Undercover on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Wii U offers an open world to explore. While most Lego games have an open-world element in at least some areas, this one keeps play open throughout so that children can enjoy exploring at their own pace. On PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch you can do this with two players.
Lego Worlds on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch, takes virtual building back to the classic bricks with familiar figures, buildings and challenges from other Lego video games in an open world where your imagination can go wild in a bottomless bucket of bricks.
Lego Dimensions on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii U, uses smart Lego toys like Skylanders to unlock and upgrade in-game content. Although it’s not being updated any longer, its interactive cooperative brick format offers a novel way to play. Along with more DC Comics and other film franchises, this broadened the Lego games to include smaller TV shows and movies which are unlocked in the game by purchasing the related Lego Dimensions set.
Forza Horizon 4 also offered Lego content in its Lego Speed Champions purchasable add-on that turns the cars and landscape into Lego. Families and younger drivers enjoy exploring the Lego Valley and collecting bricks for items in their Lego houses and garage.

7+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it’s important for parents and guardians to ensure they understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. You need to have the ability to explore the game world. There is some light puzzle solving where you need to work out which character is needed. You need good persistence to progress in some areas. Playing together with a parent is a good way for young players to enjoy it.
One family told us, "Lego games work well for our 3-year-old. They love to wander around and bash, even if they're not fussed about completing anything." Another found this good for their 5-year-old to watch first, playing the hub world sections and then fully playing themselves by the time they were 7 years old.
