Play Overview
Lies of P (2023) is a fighting game where you try to survive in a dark twist on the Pinnochio story. You explore a gothic steam-powered world, fighting off enemies with well-timed moves and choosing whether to tell the truth or lie in ways that alter the story. It takes the Elden Ring formula but adds in the strange children's tale to create an uneasy combination of challenge and peculiarity.
In a dark, ominous world poisoned with fear and bloodlust, you play Geppetto's puppet as a mysterious voice awakens him. You're guided through the corrupted city of Krat and must discover the truth behind its fall by untangling the web of lies and deception surrounding the city's ruling elite. As you explore and fend off the machines sent to hunt you down, you talk to the locals and must choose whether to tell them the truth about what you've learned or lie and keep them in the dark.
Play involves traversing the world and fighting enemies in close-quarters and precise combat where honing your skill and learning to attack, dodge, and parry at just the right times is essential. As you progress, you find new weapons you can fuse together to increase their strength and unlock useful abilities and magical powers, letting you experiment with different approaches to combat and weapon combinations. You also meet and converse with lots of characters on your journey, choosing whether to lie, comforting them and maintaining the status quo, or tell the truth and risk upending the whole world, dynamically affecting the way the story unfolds.
The result is a dark telling of a classic fairytale story where your choices meaningfully affect what happens. Add to this the demanding, one-on-one combat, and it offers an unusual experience that's both engaging and rewarding as you defeat each new, seemingly insurmountable challenge.
