Play OverviewPlay Overview

Luigi's Mansion 2 (2013), or Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon in the US, is an adventure game about investigating five haunted houses in a community overrun by ghosts. As Luigi, you use your flashlight and ghost trap in the mansions, capturing ghosts and collecting fragments of the Dark Moon. It has the same attention to detail and intricate puzzles of first game but adds a new flashlight mode that uncovers secrets and environments with new ways to interact and progress.

You play Luigi after the events of the first game, King Boo escapes his painting and shatters the moon, sending five fragments into five mansions in Evershade Valley, causing ghosts to appear and wreak havoc. E. Gadd, the scientist from the first game, recruits you to recover the moon shards and save the valley by venturing into each mansion and defeating all the ghosts inside.

Play remains similar; you explore the detailed diorama-style environments using your torch to stun ghosts and then vacuum them up. Each of the mansions is full of secrets, trapdoors and hidden rooms. New to this game is the addition of a second mode on your flashlight which can be used to reveal more secrets and treasures. Also new is the way you use the vacuum to move and manipulate objects around you to solve puzzles and unlock the way forward.

The result is a sequel that builds upon what made the original great with new mechanics and systems, while still retaining its quirky humour and spookiness without being too scary for younger children to enjoy.
