Play Overview
Milkmaid of the Milky Way (2019) is a puzzle game where you play a milkmaid, Ruth on a remote farm, who is kidnapped by a spaceship. It sounds strange, but what unfolds is a story about boredom, parental expectation and the desire for change.
It's a game where you click or tap to move around and interact with objects. As you do characters and narration are delivered in rhyme. Early tasks include milking cows, patching the roof, making cheese, and rescuing a lost cow.
While other games offer a similar experience, Milkmaid of the Milky Way delivers a whimsical fairy tale that feels unique. The rhyming delivery and animated video clips make it feel like a fairy tale. Like fairy tales, it has some dark turns but still is something players younger than its PEGI 12 rating might enjoy.
"Life is hard, work is tough, and Ruth wonders; Is this the life I want?" Says Ruth at one point. Milkmaid of the Milky Way is a story about moving into the unknown and breaking free from the past, it's a story about age, life, death and time - but most of all it's a story about finding your own place in the universe.
"I don’t want to spoil it too much but the main themes are compassion, environment, community and age. All handled very sensitively but with a pinch of humour too," said Ashley Day.
