Play Overview
OlliOlli World (2022) is a skateboarding game where you roll, jump and trick your way around the vibrant world of Radlandia. It's hard to start, but once it clicks the controls are designed to let you flow through different moves. You meet colourful characters who help you on your way to discover the mystical skate gods of Gnarvana. The twist in this latest game is a more branching and fleshed out experience and simple controls.
The game develops the series by letting you find different routes through each level. You can play these as much as you like, taking on missions, challenges, and make friends with the locals. Each of these new paths through the environments offer an array of chances for skating expression.
Controls are designed to be simple with one button to kick and move forward. Flips are on the left stick and grabs are on the right. The previous games required you to press a button as you landed a trick to pull it off. The new games now only uses this to award additional points, which makes it easier to complete stunts.
At first the controls can feel a bit odd, as what you can do depends on the position and momentum of your character as much as which buttons and sticks you press. But this soon turns into a flexible and nuanced way to play.
As you progress you can challenge other characters in the worlds Leagues or dare a friend to beat your best tricks on one of millions of sharable levels. Grinding down the Inflatable Alley or racing around Los Vulgas, there are loads of side quests, rewards, and trick opportunities.
Each level has a load of different objectives and tricks to try and pull off. Some of these are pure skating challenges, but others are quirky things like finding a frog or bee. This means you often want to do a level again as soon as you are finished.

The result is a game that not only makes skateboarding approachable to most players, but creates a world that's fund to explore and characters who are interesting to talk to.
