As you hack away at the game you uncover its corrupted code and your task is to access Pony Island's internal programming and save your (and others) souls.
Play starts as a simple galloping and jumping challenge, but as the game crashes it turns into a point-and-click style adventure. This involves dragging and manipulating what look like lines of computer code and symbols around to solve puzzles.
This will either bypass any "corruptions" in the game or enable you to cheat a level. Between these puzzles, you are returned to different forms of the Pony Island game, which becomes like an endless-runner challenge of jumping and shooting to avoid dying.
The result is a curious game with an unusual premise. It challenges the player both in terms of logic and what they expect a video game to be. The game within a game idea lets the experience play with how much control you have. It can take away your ability to pause or some of your controls which is both unsettling and intriguing.
