Play Overview
Resistor is a racing game where you use tricks and dirty tactics to win races, in an effort to take down the dystopian establishment. It draws its racing from Burnout, but between each event there threads a narrative about power and money. This combination of political activism and fast cars may sound far-fetched, but actually works well with the story of a struggling family thrown aside by the rich and powerful.
It's the year 2060 after the world's nations have gone to pot. Humanity is split into the rich and seemingly contented citizens of the walled mega-cities and the denizens of the world outside. You play an outcast called Aster, part of a struggling family, who desperately needs to get medication for her mother. The best way for them to do this is to win the annual race that grants entry into the city.
The races are lightning-fast battles through desert wastelands where drivers use special moves and even weapons to win. As you wrack up the victories, you build your party, manage relationships and add personalised upgrades to your vehicles.
Soon, however, your fight for pole position becomes a drive to destroy the system as you discover the corruption and greed at the heart of the cities. You discover more about the people and powers of the place, which offer the chance to make or break key allegiances. Depending on your choices- who you befriend, what you choose to do, and what deals you make the ending of the story changes.
