Play Overview
Rytma is an adventure game where you explore a Mediterranean landscape to find and play ancient instruments with different qualities. You investigate on foot to discover the instruments that you then move around to solve musical puzzles and learn their significance. It stands out not only for the gorgeous visuals but the cultural engagement with music and spiritual teaching.
Each instrument is tied to a piece of an ancient spiritual teaching, that takes you on a journey of musical pilgrimage to understand. As you find and use the different instruments you discover themes and concepts that focus on specific musical methods - rhythm, time, delay. At the same time, you learn how each instrument is connected to its environment in different ways - being affected by phenomena like wind and water.
As you progress you can change the way the instrument is played to affect the environment and open up new ways forward. Understanding how the obscure instruments work with the audial puzzles uses environment, interactions and sound to tell a story about identity and non-violence.
The result is a game inspired by Anatolian sufis and ancient Hindu teachings that focus on the nature of experience, perception and the self. It explores these themes not only through sound and music, but how this interweaves with the world around you. It aims to leave you with a renewed awareness of beauty, and an appetite for self-inquiry.
