Play Overview
Salt and Sacrifice (2022) (and its prequel Salt and Sanctuary) is an fighting adventure game that's intentionally difficult and dark. You play by exploring the side-on world, fighting enemies with swords and other weapons. It's a strange combination of cartoon visuals and the high blood content is off-putting, but for those old enough it offers a challenging adventure
You play by working through a series of encounters to progress through the dark dungeon spaces. The game lets you go where you want to, so you have to be careful not to stray too far too quickly as you can encounter really powerful enemies.
As you progress (and have died many times) you find literally hundreds of weapons and items. These things can help, but you need to experiment (or check online guides) to understand which work best together with your chosen character. Then there are magic and role-play progress to understand and put to use. It's a lot, but it steadily becomes more enjoyable as things click together.
The result is a skill-focused game where you can die quickly (and frustratingly) but for those who like this kind of punishment it's a fantastic example.
