Screenbound is a simple running and jumping game but your character is also playing a game on their GameBoy. Play involves the usual platforming jumps, stomping, shooting and collecting but you control both worlds simultaneously: the main 3D world and a 2D world on the GameBoy. It stands out for this combination of perspectives and interrelated worlds to traverse.
It's a game that mimics the distracted approach to media that many young people enjoy; watching something on a big screen while playing something on a small screen in front of them. Here though, the two are related, so you have to pay close attention to both to succeed.
Play is the usual kind of platform challenge. Difficult jumps to make. Enemies to stomp on. Jump pads to get you higher up. But all the time you move around to progress the main game your movement is also mirrored on the small screen. Sometimes the two worlds look similar with slight differences. Other times, they are two entirely separate worlds.
