Sea of Stars (2023) is an adventure role-play game about two children of the solstice who must combine the powers of the sun and moon to save the world. Play combines turn-based combat, storytelling, exploration and interactions with the environment. It stands out for the depth of the story and the integrated action elements more common in platforming games.
You choose between six unique playable characters, each with their own backstory, personal objectives, play style and affiliations. Battles are turned-based but still require some well-timed button presses to gain offensive and defensive advantages. There's also time for slower-paced play: sailing, cooking, fishing, and stopping by a tavern to listen to a song.
The result is a game that looks like a retro adventure but soon grows into an expansive saga. Through each character you meet you find out more about yourself and the world in which you live. It's a journey about friendship with some very unexpected twists.
