Play OverviewPlay Overview

Squirrel with a Gun (2024) is an open-world simulation game where you play, as the title suggests, as a squirrel with a gun. It sounds like a joke, but actually offers a surprisingly entertaining tongue in cheek challenge as you fight using precise moves and attacks to disarm and defeat enemies, loot residents at gunpoint, and cause mayhem. It's an intentionally ridiculous and over-the-top concept that offers nonsensical hilarity as you wreak havoc to your heart's desire.

You can fight everyone from specialist agents, who you must first disarm using a well-timed parry to get their weapon, to local townsfolk who only wanted to take a picture of you. Alternatively, you can talk to residents and help them in exchange for valuable rewards (like cake), or you can just mug them and take the goodies anyway.

There are no set goals or objectives, with gameplay instead revolving around experimenting with the physics system and the many weird opportunities it creates, like using your gun’s kickback to propel you like jetpack to reach new areas. Or using the recoil of a larger calibre gun to launch you across huge gaps, or even taking down people with massive fast-paced attacks. Individual puzzle rooms teach you the basics of movement and attacks but after this, what you do is up to you.

The result is a game that's as fun as it is peculiar. A celebration of strangeness and over-the-top action, it balances fun and player freedom with precise controls and fast-paced fighting and movement.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 12 for Moderate violence. Violence consists of your squirrel character using a wide variety of firearms and explosives to defend yourself against secret agents. The agent characters react in an unrealistic manner, with no realistic blood or injuries depicted, while defeated agents lie on the ground like ragdolls when defeated. Civilian characters can also be caught in the crossfire and be knocked down, although they simply get back to their feet and resume their activities without visible harm.

When you shoot a human, they fall to the floor and become like a rag doll, able to be pushed around and manipulated. They recoil slightly from the impact when shot, but there is no visible blood or gore.

If you point a gun towards a town resident, they assume a scared-looking stance and try to move further away.
