Play OverviewPlay Overview

Tales of Kenzera: Zau (2024) is a running, jumping and fighting adventure where you play a grieving boy who bargains with God to bring his father back to life. You traverse the world with carefully timed jumps, quick combat and unlocking new abilities. It stands out not only for the theme of grief but how this is interwoven with the use of your powers.

Your challenge is to reclaim your father’s spirit by navigating the beautiful yet treacherous land of Kenzera. You play a young shaman who can wield cosmic powers to find and defeat three mighty beings that stand in your way. Perhaps you will manipulate time, launch fiery spears or simply leap and glide to safety.

As you progress you learn to master the world and unravel the poignant story shaped by the game creator's own experience of grief. By wielding the Sun and Moon masks you get access to new powers that enable you to defeat enemies quicker and unlock new areas. As you defeat each mighty being you not only tame their threat but find a strange affinity to their pain and anger.

The result is a game that takes you on an emotional journey inspired by the rich myths of Bantu cultures.

Content Rating

Rated PEGI 7 for Fear, Violence and Horror. This game features frequent mild violence, which is either directed at the player's human character or at fantasy enemies. Violence and reactions are unrealistic in nature. Enemies flash when hit, have health bars, and disappear into particles when defeated. The player's character does not display any visible harm or hurt and also disperses into purple particles when defeated. The bosses the player encounters are often menacing and somewhat disturbing in design and may scare young children.

Skill Level

10+ year-olds usually have the required skill to enjoy this game. Still, it’s important for parents and guardians to ensure they understand in-game purchases and have spending limits set-up. Younger children who love to challenge themselves will enjoy the difficulty and precise inputs needed, but patience and perseverance are certainly required, both for the tough platforming and exacting boss fights. Appreciating the substance of the story and the tale of parental loss requires some maturity.
