Trackline Express (2024) is a strategy game where you build and resource a train on an adventure through an unforgiving desert. Play involves running around to gather scarce materials to create the resources you need - coal, ore and wood for starters. It balances base building with the steady production of ever more complex equipment and ironmongery.
It's a train builder where you need to reach the stations while keeping your passengers safe from attacks and wildfires. Gather wood, rocks, ores, and coal, and then transform them into various resources to create new buildings and equipment using blueprints that you unlock along the way.
As you progress you discover it's not as simple as that. Not only are there missing sections of track but barbarian attacks and wildfires rage. Along the way, you collect coins to unlock blueprints for more complex builds - mines, smelters and the like. You can even recruit comrades and put them to work to automate your progress.
The result is a game about balancing progress down the tracks with your ability to defend yourself and deal with disasters. Each new run is different and requires different prioritisation, adaptation is key.
