Play Overview
Arma 3 (2013) is a realistic military simulator. Unlike games such as
Call of Duty or
Battlefield Arma focuses on realism. Rather than blockbuster effects, it spends time simulating the impact of carrying heavy guns and equipment, realistic ammunition-consumption and terrain. This also includes a simulated impact of injuries. For example, if a player is shot in the leg, they will move slower and limp until they get medical attention.
The game is built around user-generated missions. Players create these and publish them online for other people to play, or make missions to play with friends. As with any user-created content the quality and tone can vary depending on what's in the mission. This might be a fun and silly kart racing mission to a high-pressure infiltration of a foreign power. Arma 3 provides players with tools to create whatever gaming experience they would like.
Arma 3 has risen in popularity recently through publishing pre-built campaigns. These campaigns require the purchase of additional in-game content that ranges in cost. Each campaign is unique, has its own narrative and ongoing progression.
Due to the realism of the game, Arma 3 has a very steep learning curve. It is recommended to carefully read the manual of the game to understand the basics as there is a minimal amount of assistance for new players.
