Ashwalkers (2021) is an adventure survival game where you play a small group facing the aftermath of an apocalyptic volcano. You journey through a wild landscape, encountering dangers and strangers. It's a challenge of survival notable for its understated visuals and branching outcomes.
As you lead the party to explore, find food and hopefully survive for long enough to find shelter, the choices you make will affect the outcome of the story. You need to manage each person's health, tiredness, level of hope and injuries.
You progress through the desolate wasteland 200 years after the aforementioned eruption. To survive you need to scavenge for combustibles for fire, medication to deal with wounds and food.
Your job is to keep your squad alive through storms of ash, acid rain, and the grey blizzard. As you do you discover the relationships and tensions between the group. This must be carefully managed as well if you are to work together to reach safety.
The visuals are colourless and match the desolate situation. But they are detailed and require attention to manage your resources and make the best choices. Depending on your decisions there are 34 endings for each 2-hour play-through.
