Play OverviewPlay Overview

Branches of Power (2020) is a strategy game where you control all three branches of US government. You run the country with the ability to introduce presidential agendas, write legislation, sign or veto bills, and even judge passed laws. It's a lot to deal with and intentionally so. As you play you learn about how these different aspects of governance work.

Play involves making a series of decisions. You pick leaders for each branch of government, create a presidential agenda, introduce bills and pass laws out of Congress and apply judicial review to pass laws.

As you progress the challenge develops. The game simulates how the separation of powers and checks and balances limit government, while contributing to the creation of laws. You can analyze the structure, functions, and processes of the legislative, executive, and judicial branches.

This is part of the iCivics series of games, you can also play Win the White House.

Our examiner, Andy Robertson, first checked Branches of Power 2 years ago. It was re-examined by Jo Robertson and updated 20 months ago.
