Play Overview
Laya's Horizon (2023) is a traversal and collection flying game where you plunge from mountains, weave through forests and glide down rivers to unlock new abilities and discover a huge tranquil world. Coming from the people behind Alto's Odyssey it's no surprise the focus is no smooth instinctive flight and gliding. It stands out for this sense of motion and controlling your path by flight adjustments to Laya’s arms.
In the game, you use the ancient power of the Windfolk’s enchanted capes to take to the skies. This gets you airborne, but mastering that movement requires practice and power-ups. You take on obstacle courses and collect-a-thons to earn points and upgrades.
The controls are unusual in that each thumb is used to position one of your character's arms. Just like a real-world wingsuit, your limbs change the shape of your cape just like a bird’s wings. Move your thumbs independently or together to steer, boost, rise and dive. You gain power by flying boldly close to flora and fauna (and of course hot air balloons). Do well and you can unlock new flying abilities offered by the different enchanted capes and charms on your journey.
The result is a game that's both a challenge and a world to explore. Either take on a mission to progress or simply enjoy the beauty of the island and fly without a goal. Drift down from your sky-high perch to soak up all that it has to offer.
